On Stage: The Janet Seidel Tribute Show

We have been saddened by the sudden death of Janet Seidel earlier this month. Dubbed Australia’s first lady of jazz, she was one of our most popular artists at Stage and Screen, her talent and professionalism over the years helped to establish it as an appreciated and attended event at the Empire.

The scheduled performance by the Trio on August 27th will now be replaced by a tribute to Janet and her career devised and performed by her trio companions, David Seidel and Chuck Morgan with special guests Kevin Hunt on piano, Ben Jones, wind and vocals, and Joshua Morgan on drums. All have enjoyed a close professional relationship with Janet in the past on recordings and on stage.  Celebrating the songs of George and Ira Gershwin, join us at the Empire for this special tribute.

On Screen: ‘The Seven Year Itch’  with Marilyn Monroe

(1954)

George Axelrod’s smash hit play ran on Broadway for three years and for one and all to enjoy its comedic brilliance was filmed by 20th Century Fox as a vehicle for their rising star Marilyn Monroe. And how delightful she is, showing off her obvious attributes and delivering some great lines along with  hyperactive co star Tom Ewell recreating his Broadway role.

With his family away escaping the heat and humidity of a New York summer Richard Stirling decides he has the opportunity to live the bachelor life – to eat and drink what he likes and to enjoy life to the full without wife and child. When the beautiful but ditzy blonde model from the apartment above catches his eye other vices and adventures seem possible. Look out for that famous iconic shot of the dress billowing up over the subway grate. Filmed in wide screen Cinemascope and directed by the masterful Billy Wilder.

Tickets: $30.00 available online www.empirecinema.com.au or at the Box Office
